Kent County League announce extended sponsorship deal

Tuesday 06th June 2006
British Energy has announced it will continue its longest running sponsorship with the Kent County Football League last week thanks to the life extension of Dungeness B nuclear power station, writes Stephen McCartney.

British Energy’s 12-year sponsorship of the league will be continued for a further two years with the League benefiting to the tune of £9,000.

At the League’s annual dinner Dungeness B’s strategic outage manager Steve Pettitt explained how British Energy’s announcement that it had extended the power station’s accounting life to 2018 influenced the decision.

Steve Pettitt told www.kentishfootball.co.uk today: “Prior to the life extension decision it was very difficult for us to commit too far into the future, but the ten year extension gives us leeway to continue an excellent partnership.

“The fact that we have maintained such an unusually long sponsorship is testament to the value the League brings not just to British Energy and Dungeness B, but also to the county of Kent.

“Everyone involved in the League commits their own time and energy into making it the success that it is, and as the main sponsor we reap the benefits of that.”

The sponsorship stretches back to 1993 when Nuclear Electric first struck a deal with the Kent County League, before British Energy took over following the part-privatisation of the nuclear industry.

The League’s commitment to Fair Play and its promotion of sport in the community have been key reasons for British Energy’s support.

Cyril Windiate, chairman of the Kent County League, said: “British Energy’s agreement to extend their sponsorship for a further two years is excellent news for everyone connected with the league and in particular our clubs. The stability this agreement brings cannot be emphasised too strongly.

“We are absolutely delighted to continue our partnership with British Energy into the future which brings added value to a highly successful association with our friends at Dungeness B.
“We very much look forward to the continuation of our excellent working relationship and can now concentrate on preparing for the season ahead with great optimism and excitement following this important announcement”.
