Family commitments force Robert Greenfield and Sam Colon to leave Kennington

KENNINGTON manager Dan Scorer says he has lost two members of his squad though family commitments.

Defender Robert Greenfield, 31 and striker Sam Conlon, 30, have both told the Ashford-based outfit that they are not available next season.

Greenfield joined Kennington towards the end of the 2016-17 season, having played Kent County League football with Bromley Green and took on the captaincy the following season, leading Kennington to the Kent County League Premier Division title.

Conlon, meanwhile, brought vast experience having played at a higher level of football at both Hythe Town and Canterbury City.

“Tad’s been a good friend of mine for a number of years and came in when Adam Phillips joined Ashford United,” Scorer said of Greenfield.

“In terms of Tad’s impact, it’s been a story of firsts for him and the club really, he took over the captaincy and we went on to win the Kent County League.

“Then, last season he was the first captain to lead us out at Step Six and for our first-ever appearance in the FA Vase.

“I know he struggled with injury more recently but has some great memories to take away.”

Scorer added: “Sam’s another close friend of mine and has been with us a while.

“He was at Hythe Town and then Canterbury City but wasn’t getting enough game time so signed for us just before Christmas in 2017, made a big difference in helping us win the Kent County Premier and has been another fantastic servant.

“Our first year in the Southern Counties East Football League, he made the most appearances and has a tireless work ethic, always willing to run himself into the ground.

“Sam has two daughters who are both at an age where they’re busy at the weekend and like any family man he doesn’t want to miss out and Tad is similar with two boys and a baby daughter, so I completely understand why they’ve decided to stop playing.  Both of them will definitely be missed.”

A club statement added : ”Kennington Football Club would like to pass on their thanks to Tad and Sam for their contribution to a period of great success for the club and we wish both players and their families all the very best for the future.”

Kennington were leading the Southern Counties East Football League First Division but The Football Association declared the 2019-20 season null and void and all records expunged, owing to the coronavirus pandemic.
