James Peacock becomes Peter Nott's first signing for Whitstable Town

WHITSTABLE TOWN’S newly appointed manager Peter Nott has today unveiled his first signing for the club, writes Stephen McCartney.
James Peacock, 22, has arrived at The Belmont, having signed today from Nott’s previous club, Maidstone United.

Peacock, nicknamed PK, was the Stones longest serving player, massing over 100 Ryman Premier League appearances before he asked to be released from his contract earlier this month.

“I signed PK for the Stones as a 15-year-old after he was released from Charlton Athletic and managed him a he progressed through the youth and reserves rank through to the first team,” Nott, who was appointed Whitstable’s new manager late last Wednesday night, told www.whitstabletownfc.co.uk.

“He is a very competitive player, strong in the air and comfortable on the ball, and is equally at home at centre half or in the centre of midfield.

“I've every confidence that PK will become a firm favourite with the supporters as he was with the Stones fans due to his whole hearted performances he gives week in week out.”

Peacock watched the game at Chatham Town yesterday and will join up for training with the rest of the squad this week, although he will not be available for the Leatherhead game as he is currently serving a suspension that he picked up for a sending off in his last game for Maidstone.

Nott’s first game in charge of The Oystermen was a goal-less draw away to Chatham Town yesterday, a result that left everybody in the Whitstable camp disappointed.

“Six or seven games ago the players would have been delighted with a draw, now they are really disappointed not to take all three points,” said Nott.

“That’s a credit to the way Steve (Nolan) has installed some belief in them and their own improved performances.

“I told them after the final whistle, this is the benchmark now, we did not play to our best but we kept a clean sheet and at the same time stopped Chatham from scoring; they came into the game on the back of a good four-one win against Fleet Town.”

Whitstable are now three points clear of the relegation zone in Ryman League Division One South table in nineteenth place with 21 points from 25 games.
