We've got one more hurdle to cross, says Maidstone United midfielder Jack Parkinson

MAIDSTONE UNITED midfielder Jack Parkinson says the club deserve to win the Ryman Premier League title.

The Stones are taking 900 fans to Dulwich Hamlet where a win will secure the league title today.

ON THE BRINK: Maidstone United can claim the Ryman Premier League title with a win at Dulwich Hamlet's Champion Hill today.

Maidstone United sit at the top of the table with 94 points with two games remaining, while Gavin Rose’s Dulwich Hamlet are in fourth-place in the table on 74 points and need a win to secure a play-off place.

Second-placed Hendon (88 points), who have had a great season under boss Gary McCann, have a game in hand on Maidstone United, but the Stones have a far superior goal-difference and can win the title with a win at Champion Hill today.

“It’s going to be tough but with Hendon now putting the ball back in our court, we know that if we can pick up three points today it’s as good as done with the goal difference we’ve got,” said Parkinson.

When asked how he was feeling at 09:42 this morning, Parkinson replied: “Excited, I’ve got to be honest.  I remember feeling like this when we got to the play-off final at Welling.

“It’s a great day. We’ve got 900 fans travelling from Maidstone so it should be a good game. The gut feeling at the moment, is just excited.”

The club have enjoyed a ray of success since moving back home and Parkinson wants to finish off the job in south London today.

The Stones have two games to do it. They complete their campaign at home to East Thurrock United next Saturday.

Parkinson said: “It’s been brilliant. The club deserve it. It’s been hell of a season really to reach the Second Round of The FA Cup for a Ryman League side is brilliant and the fact that we’ve been at the top of the league for so long now during the season just shows, I’d like to think today that we do deserve it.

“We’ve got one more hurdle to cross. We’re not taking it for granted. Dulwich are a good side and East Thurrock are a good side.

“We’d like to think that we’re confident enough that what we’ve got in the dressing room we can do a job.

“I’m not one to get nervous before games. I never have been really, more excited. I want to get out of the house now, get on the coach and get to the ground."

Meanwhile, today's match is ALL-TICKET.
