Invicta hail successful Family Fun Day

Ryman Premier League club Folkestone Invicta have hailed their “Invicta Family Day” on Good Friday “an unqualified success.”

Organisers Mr Jim Pellat and Mike Pay were very pleased with the entire day, which attracted a crowd of 524 to the Buzzlines Stadium in Cheriton Road for the goal-less draw with Heybridge Swifts.

“There is no doubt whatsoever that the Family Fun Day was an unqualified success, blessed with a beautiful sunny day,” Mr Pellat, Invicta’s company secretary/sales & marketing director told www.folkestoneinvicta.co.uk.

“It was a delight to see so many young and happy faces (mainly painted), with a large sprinkling of Folkestone Invicta shirts, and the parents having a good day as well.

“Parents were amazed that their children could do so much for just a pound, and when we were handing out goody bags, we were regularly asked “how much?”, and thanked profusely when they discovered they were free.

“As they left the ground, the good feelings stayed with them.

“This was not a money making venture but was designed to increase the feelgood factor surrounding the club and what we have and will achieve.

“This is the first time we have attempted such an event and now we must build on what was achieved.

“The event would not have been such a success, or taken place at all, without the enormous amount of work, experience, energy and drive which Mike Pay put into making it possible.

“It was a truly a red-letter day when Mike walked through the door of Folkestone Invicta.

“I wish to thank him personally, because without him, I wouldn’t have known where to start.”

On the pitch, Invicta should be playing Ryman Premier League football again next season, having picked up two points over the holiday period.

They found themselves 3-0 down after just 31 minutes at Tonbridge Angels yesterday, but two goals from Ellis Remy and Scott Corbett claimed a dramatic point at the Betterview Longmead Stadium which puts Tony Dolby’s side out of the play-off picture.

Invicta will attract their largest crowd of the season when AFC Wimbledon visit the Buzzlines Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

The Dons currently occupy the fifth and final play-off berth on 68 points – one place and one point clear of Margate, who travel to second placed side Chelmsford City.
