Injury-hit Stones sign defenders Watts and Royston

Thursday 24th August 2006
Maidstone United, who defeated Fleet Town 3-2 last night, have signed central defender Lew Watts from their Ryman Premier League neighbours Tonbridge Angels.

The Stones, whose defence is already stretched, will hand the former Welling United defender his debut on Saturday when Whyteleafe are the visitors to Bourne Park. Watts made 35 appearances for Tony Dolby’s side, after leaving Welling United in October 2005, and he brings a wealth of experience in non-league football.

Having spent most of his career at
Park View Road, he did make 13 appearances for Gravesend & Northfleet in 2002 before returning to play for the Wings.

There was also a surprise return to the Stones last night for Ryan Royston. With the mounting injury problems, the big central defender who left the club to sign for Kent League side Thamesmead Town has agreed to sign for the short term in order to help out his old club for the duration of the injury crisis.
