I'm looking forward to going back to Ashford, says John Cumberbatch

GREENWICH BOROUGH manager John Cumberbatch says he is looking forward to returning to Ashford on Saturday.

Greenwich Borough climbed off the foot of the Southern Counties East Football League table after their shock 3-1 win over unbeaten Tunbridge Wells at Princes Park Stadium on Tuesday night.

Boro’ raced into a 3-0 lead at the break, courtesy of two goals from striker Jeff Duah-Kessie and the opener from his strike partner Badar Mohamed.

But Tunbridge Wells pulled a goal back through Perry Spackman on his 30th birthday but couldn’t find the goals that their second half dominance deserved.

Cumberbatch knows that he needs to find experienced heads that are able to put their foot on the ball and slow things down and start climbing their way out of the bottom four, having collected four points from five games.

“We just have to make sure that they don’t get carried away with themselves,” said the Greenwich Borough manager.

“We will still look at the mistakes that we made. We’ll look at the fact that we allowed Tunbridge Wells to come at us so much in the second half and we needed somebody to get their foot on the ball and start controlling it a bit more.

“Being 3-1 up we really should have been able to do that but we didn’t so it was too nerve wracking to win a game in that way.”

It was a night that Ashford United and Whyteleafe also lost their unbeaten records to Lordswood and Sevenoaks Town respectively.

“I’m looking forward to going back to Ashford,” said former Ashford Town boss Cumberbatch.

“I haven’t been to the Homelands for quite a while so it will be good to go back there.”

Meanwhile, Greenwich Borough will donate £5,000 to Help for Heroes after their president promised to donate the sum to charity for every round of the FA Cup that the club progressed in.  The club defeated Ringmer at the second attempt before going out 1-0 at Littlehampton Town in the Preliminary Round just nearly two weeks’ ago.
