I'm confident we can go to Molesey and get a result, says Neil Cugley

FOLKESTONE INVICTA boss Neil Cugley says the loss of eighteen-year-old striker Johan Ter Horst to injury is a blow.

Invicta must travel to Molesey on Tuesday night to replay their FA Cup Preliminary Round tie after throwing away two leads in a 3-3 draw at Cheriton Road on Saturday.

Cugley felt his side should have done enough to avoid travelling to Surrey for the replay.

“I’ve been saying that for quite a few days now,” he said.

“Very disappointed to be 2-0 up and the game was sort of all over and then we gifted them a goal with a bad pass to make it 2-1 and even at that stage there would be one winner with the goal of the game and we gave a silly penalty away with a silly push in the back to make it 2-2.

“Johan done really well to get a brilliant header and he was knocked out and will be out for quite a few weeks and we gave the ball away again and they ran away and scored.

“It’s happening too many times now that we’re dominating and not winning!”

Cugley urges his side to finish off the job at Walton Road on Tuesday night.

He said: “We’d rather have won but we’re still in the competition so that’s even more important that we go there and get the result.

“I’d rather be going there than not going there if you know what I mean!”

When asked what he’s expecting second time around, Cugley replied: “The same again. Give them their due they tried to play and they weren’t a bad side but we should have had it won on Saturday!

“We let them back in the game and they’ll be high on confidence.

“I’m confident that we go there and get a result and get through.”

Folkestone Invicta have a massive incentive to get the job done because they will welcome their Ryman League Division One South rivals Herne Bay to Cheriton Road in the First Qualifying Round on 14 September.

But the Kent derby will only be on if both sides keep to their side of the bargain and Herne Bay see off Eastbourne United at Winch’s Field on Tuesday night after Sam Denley’s side grabbed a dramatic late equaliser in a 2-2 draw down on the Sussex coast at the weekend.

Cugley said: “I suppose Herne Bay want it and so do we want it so we have to get through.”

Reflecting on Ter Horst’s injury, Cugley revealed: “He’ll be out for quite a few weeks.  It’s a great shame because he’s been doing ever so well.

“It was such a great header from the lad. He’s only a little lad, but what a great header and that should have been the winning goal, which makes it even more disappointing for us.

“He’s a great player, great attitude, nice lad, good footballer, clever footballer.”

When asked whether he will make changes for tomorrow’s replay, Cugley replied: “There will be a couple of changes.

“Dane Luchford is out (with a hamstring) as well. He might be fit but I don’t think he will be fit. He might be.

“Young Chris Elliott done well when he came on at left-back so that was a bonus so he’ll come back in and start.”
