I don't put pressure on my players, says Pennock

After Welling United’s midweek goalless draw at Eastbourne Borough, the Wings entertain Sutton United at Park View Road on Saturday.

Andrew Sam is still out with an ankle injury and Che Stadhart picked up a knock against Braintree Town last Saturday. Joe Vines and Ronayne Benjamin are also doubts for the game.

New signing Ben Lewis is available for selection and is likely to feature. St Albans released the central defender in early September, with the 29-year-old making 21 appearances for the Saints last season.

Nine games into the new campaign and the Wings lie 10th in the table. Adrian Pennock’s side have won four, lost four and drawn just one, but the manager stressed there is along way to go.

He told www.wellingunited.com
"Its been an up and down start, but don’t get me wrong there is a lot of work to be done, however, we have a young squad this year.

“I’ve been quoted as saying that we are going to get promotion, got to do this because we want to get promotion, which is a load of rubbish, as I haven’t said that.

“I don’t want to put Pressure on nobody. I’m not the type of manager to say that we are going to get promotion or be in the playoffs.

“We have to take every game as it comes, I think we haven’t been playing brilliantly but there is along way to go in the season."

16th placed Sutton are the visitors on Saturday and it could be a tough task for Wings, as they found out last season. Welling were left to rue numerous missed chances on New Years Eve in a frustrating game at Park View Road.

"Sutton are our bogey team, last year it was the most one-sided game I have ever been involved with, we just couldn’t score.
“Then away at Sutton we didn’t play very well and we lost, which we were all disappointed with. There are no easy games, we just have to be mentally and physically right."
