Hythe Town search for friendly away date

Saturday 22nd June 2013
HYTHE TOWN are looking for a pre-season friendly away from home on Tuesday 16 July as the club prepare for their new campaign.

Manager Scott Porter led the Reachfields Stadium outfit to their highest ever position last season when they finished in fourth-place in the Ryman League Division One South table.

But they suffered a disappointing 3-0 defeat away to Faversham Town in the semi-finals of the play-offs, before Faversham went down to a 3-0 defeat to league runners-up Maidstone United, who were promoted to the Ryman Premier League along with champions Dulwich Hamlet.

Hythe Town have already booked friendlies against Margate (home, 13 July), Lydd Town (home, 18 July), Erith Town (away, 20 July), Tonbridge Angels (home, 23 July), Ashford United (home, 27 July), Phoenix Sports (away, 30 July) and Sutton Athletic (home, 3 August), as they prepare for the big kick-off on Saturday 10 August.

Hythe Town secretary Martin Giles said: “We have filled our quota of home games but are prepared to travel anywhere within reason.

“All of the Hythe team would be involved barring injuries and we would look at a possible return game at Reachfields the following season just as we have done with Sutton Athletic (on 3 August) after they looked after us so well last year.

“You will not find many Ryman clubs playing host to Kent League (now Southern Counties East Football League) or Kent Invicta League teams but for us it is all about give and take.

“I therefore find it particularly disappointing that there are clubs who, having asked for fixtures, or having expressed an interest, cannot be bothered to get back to us with their final answer so that we can look elsewhere.”
