Hythe Town appoint Steven Watt as their new manager

Saturday 07th September 2019

HYTHE TOWN have appointed Steven Watt as their new manager.

The 34-year-old Scott enjoyed an illustrious playing career starting at Chelsea, before playing for Barnsley, Swansea City, Inverness Caledonian Thistle, Ross County and Grimsby Town, before dropping down into non-league football to play for Dover Athletic, Maidstone United and Hastings United.

Watt has had various managerial roles since retiring as a player, with the latest being at Margate in the Isthmian League Premier Division.

Watt replaces Sam Denly, who resigned last Wednesday, 4 September 2019 after the Cannons were thrashed 7-1 by Faversham Town in their first Velocity Trophy group game at Salters Lane, seven days after coming away from the same venue with a 1-0 defeat in the league.

Hythe Town chairman Paul Markland said: “We had many applicants for the role and many were stand out candidates.

“We are delighted to have secured the services of Steve Watt, an ambitious and experienced manager and football man who we believe will get our promotion push back on track.”

Watt added: “I am excited to join an ambitious club who I believe has a great potential for the future.

“I think that there are great days ahead for Hythe Town FC and I believe we can achieve our goals.”

Hythe Town are without a game today because they were knocked out of The FA Cup by Cray Wanderers with a 5-0 defeat at Hayes Lane in the Preliminary Round.

The Cannons host Whitstable Town in the Velocity Trophy next Tuesday 10 September.

Hythe Town sit in the bottom three in the Isthmian League Division One South table, having picked up just three points from their opening four league outings.
