Hyde signing is "a big thing" for us, says Fisk - EXCLUSIVE

Tuesday 03rd July 2007

Kent League side Hythe Town have pulled off a major coup by signing goalkeeper Paul Hyde, 43, from Blue Square Southern club Welling United, writes Stephen McCartney.

Boss Paul Fisk is delighted that he’s managed to bring the former Dover Athletic goalkeeper to Reachfields Stadium.

"I’ve spoken to him over the last couple of seasons, and he’s always had good offers from other clubs," Fisk said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk today.

"This year he’s taken up our offer, so we’re all more than pleased."

Fisk believes the veteran stopper will bring valuable experience to his side and Hyde is expected to put pen to paper on a one-year contract at Thursday night’s training session, having already signed Kent League registration forms for the club.

"First and foremost he’s experienced," said Fisk. "He’s played a lot of Football League games, playing at Wycombe Wanders and Leicester City with Martin O’Neill.

"Most people locally would remember him at Dover – he’s experience will be brilliant for us.

"He’s coming over as a player, but if any coaching and input he wants to have, everyone will be happy to take in.

"I’ve known him for a good few years now. He lives in New Romney, the same town as me, that’s how I’ve managed to do it – it’s a big thing for the club."

Born in Hayes, Middlesex, Hyde started his career with Hillingdon Borough before signing for Hayes.

He then moved to Wycombe Wanderers where he made over 200 appearances, helping them clinch the Conference title back in 1993.

He then moved to Leicester City with Martin O’Neil and has also played for Leyton Orient before drifting back into the non-league game with Dover Athletic, where he won numerous "Player of the Year" awards.

In June 2002 he was Clive Walker’s assistant manager at Crabble and he’s also a qualified coach.
