Quite simply we haven't scored enough goals and that needs to change, says Hollands & Blair boss Darren Blackburn

Saturday 10th November 2018

HOLLANDS & BLAIR manager Darren Blackburn says a lack of discipline has been costing his side points.

The Gillingham-based club sit in the bottom four in the Southern Counties East Football League table with two wins from 12 league games and travel to K Sports today.

Kris Browning’s side – runners up in the First Division last season – are in fourteenth-place in the table on 15 points from 14 games.

“K Sports are on a good little run of late, I’m sure after the last two results they’ll be looking for three points themselves but hopefully we can use the game to start ourselves on a good run of our own against teams around us over the next few weeks.

“Since a great away win at Deal in the cup a couple of weeks ago we’ve given serious title contenders Chatham a very good game, lost narrowly to AFC Croydon Athletic to a very debatable last minute penalty and battled hard under extremely difficult traveling circumstances against high flying Fisher, who are doing very well and again will be right up there at the end of the season.

“The disappointing issue with the last two defeats is we ended both with 10 men and the deciding goals came when we had just 10 men on the field.

“A lack of discipline, whether we’re talking tackles or dissent has now cost us in several games this season and what’s even more frustrating is I have a very good group of honest, hardworking players who have just let themselves and their team mates down at key times with acts of immaturity or inexperience and it’s undoing much of their hard work.

“We are working hard on and off the field to change our luck and I believe you get out what you put in, so or luck and results will change soon I’m sure of that and we will do all we can to make sure we give ourselves the best chance of doing that against K Sports this weekend.

“With regards to our league position, I don’t feel that’s an entirely fair reflection of where we’re at now or how far we’ve come over the last few months.

“We’ve had a settled squad now for a few matches since Deal and it’s shown in our performances that we’re not too far away from where I’d like to be.

“Quite simply we haven’t scored enough goals and that needs to change," added Blackburn, whose side have scored 11 goals in the league.

"It’s not simply down to strikers either, we have to offer more when in possession and attacking the oppositions goal.

“The return of David Abe to the squad and the signing of Callum Peck have definitely helped in our attacking efforts but they’ve only played a couple of games and may need a couple more to get fully going.

“There maybe one or two additions to come to help the squad improve further but overall I’m happy with the lads effort and endeavour, we just need to start turning that into points now.

“K Sports is a great club with top facilities so fingers crossed for a good game of football and a positive result.”
