Monday 04th June 2007

Darren Hare has been named Andy Hessenthaler’s assistant manager at Dover Athletic, writes Justin Allen.

Former Whites player Hare, who is currently Education and Welfare officer at Crystal Palace, is a well-respected professional coach and Hess believes he is a major signing for the club.

He told www.doverathletic.com: "Darren's a top coach and I've seen him in action. He's someone I trust and who knows non-league football.

"He is someone I have a lot of respect for - and someone I feel comfortable working with. He has a lot to offer us.

"I've worked with him before at Gillingham. It's important to have good people around you and he is that.

"Also his links at Crystal Palace could prove invaluable to this club."

Hare - who has also previously worked at the Kent FA's youth development officer, will continue to work at Palace.

And Hessenthaler thanks Eagles boss Peter Taylor for giving him special permission to combine his role with Dover Athletic.

He said: "It's good of Peter to help us out like this."
