Herne Bay lose points after Floodlight Trophy win

Thursday 15th February 2007

Herne Bay’s reserve team were docked the points that they won when they defeated Chatham Town’s second string in their Floodlight Trophy clash at Maidstone Road in October, writes Stephen McCartney.

The points were awarded to Chatham Town in accordance with the rules of the competition, which allows a maximum of “three players who regularly play for the first team,” and Herne Bay were also fined £20.00.

A statement issued by Herne Bay on their website www.hernebayfc.net this week, said: “Chairman John Bathurst pleaded guilty but with mitigation reduced the alleged number of illegal players from eight to four on the night.”

Chatham now leapfrog the Winch’s Field outfit into second place and are now one point behind neighbouring leaders Lordswood but with a game in hand.

Meanwhile, Jason Lillis’ first team travel to Croydon on Saturday (3pm).
