Harmsworth explains Trams departure

Saturday 02nd September 2006

Russell Harmsworth has issued the a statement regarding his departure from Kent League side Croydon yesterday.

The Trams, who welcome Sporting Bengal United to the Croydon Sports Arena today, have collected just one point from their first three league games, without scoring a goal, and are  third from bottom in the table.

“Thanks for all your support and hard work since I have been at the club,” Harmsworth told the club website.

“I am sorry that it did not work out and I still believe that the players at the club will now finish in the top six this season.

“The team spirit was unbelievable and made me feel proud.

“In the games we played this season we were the better side in all those games, even the Beckenham game where we had twice as many chances as them but failed to take those chances.

“I really enjoyed working with the players and I believe we were playing football the right way by passing and moving and also believe on Saturday we would have smashed Sporting Bengal and that would have kick started our season.

“My philosophy is not to smash the ball forward and go long ball all the time and I was not prepared to change that philosophy.”
