Greenwich Borough 0 Erith & Belvedere 1

Sunday 12th February 2006
A day of complete and utter frustration for Erith & Belvedere appeared to
be compounded when a 75th minute Leon Braithwaite penalty was ruled out for
encroachment, until, that is, Christian Wheeler nodded home an 85th minute
winner to move the Deres up to third place in the Kent Premier League, writes Thomas Hawes.
In their second visit to Harrow Meadow in as many weeks, Erith dominated
proceedings and were unfortunate to have captain Lewis Tozer's header
disallowed after three minutes.

The Deres were virtually camped out in Borough's half, yet they had very few
shots on goal, partly due to a niggle picked up by the usually influential
Chris Dickson.

With 30 minutes on the clock, Tozer came close to heading the promotion contenders in front, this time the woodwork denied the former Leicester City trainee.

Having forayed for a goal, the Erith players frustration climaxed when the
referee ruled out Leon Braithwaite's penalty strike for encroachment. A
number of Deres players were booked having confronted the referee. In his
unique style, the referee simply told the players to 'shut it'.

However, with just five minutes remaining, the away side earned what could prove to be three valuable points when Tommy Martin whipped the ball in from the
right. The ball bounced once and sat up kindly for Wheeler to nod the ball into the bottom corner of the Greenwich goal and this time the officials couldn't find a way to disallow the goal.

Erith & Belvedere travel to Hythe Town next Saturday, in search of a fifth consecutive league win.
