Greenwich Borough boss Gary Alexander: My boys have been fantastic to be heading into the play-offs in our Ryman League debut season

Friday 21st April 2017

GREENWICH BOROUGH boss Gary Alexander is preparing for the club’s biggest game in their history next week.

The Borough have enjoyed a decent debut campaign in the Ryman League Division One South and will finish in third-place should they avoid defeat against fourth-from-bottom side Guernsey tomorrow.

Tooting & Mitcham United will clinch the league title on the final day of the season should they avoid a 5-0 defeat at second-placed Dorking Wanderers.

Greenwich Borough, who won the Southern Counties East Football League title last season, follow in third-place, 13 points adrift of the league leaders, while Corinthian-Casuals are in fourth-place, two points behind Alexander’s men. Hastings United, meanwhile, have secured a top five finish.

All being well, Greenwich Borough will get the points against Guernsey tomorrow to host Corinthian-Casuals in the Ryman League Division One South Play-Off Semi-Finals next Tuesday night.

The team that finishes in third-place after tomorrow’s games will be the side that will have home advantage, while Dorking Wanderers will host Hastings United in the other semi-final.

“It’s our last game of the season tomorrow needing a point to secure third, having been promoted last year,” said Alexander.

“I’d say we have taken a giant leap forward to be competing in the league above. If you had offered me 92 points at the start of the season I would have taken it - but with a game to spare.

“My boys have been fantastic to be heading into the play-offs in our Ryman League debut season. I can’t ask for any more but would like to say it’s been a pleasure to be involved.

“Some of the high points totals are credit to the teams, players’ and staff.

“I’m so looking forward to the play-offs. It’s why we all play football to be involved in big games.

“My squad are fully aware of what’s at stake and will be concentrating on the job in hand tomorrow before our attentions are turned to probably the favourites for the play-offs, Corinthian-Casuals, with the run they have been on.”
