GRAVESHAM BOROUGH have folded just 26 days before the start of the new season.

The club finished third-from-bottom in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division last season.

The club took to Twitter to announce the sad news.

“I am sad to announce that Gravesham Borough FC are folding,” said a club spokesman.

“After such a great end to last season we were looking forward to a great season but it was not to be.”

Gravesham Borough played their home games at Chatham Town’s ground at Maidstone Road and are jointly-managed by Gary Abbott and Ricky Marshall.

Coach Craig Clark added: “Absolutely gutted that Gravesham has folded.  Thanks to Peter (Snelling), Scott (Williamson), Abbo (Abbott) and Ricky (Marshall) for giving me the chance to do what I enjoy, so sad.”

Gravesham Borough's resignation means that there will now be 18 club's in the Southern Counties East Football League First Division this coming season.

A League statement said: “It is with much regret that the League have accepted the resignation of Gravesham Borough FC from Southern Counties East Football League Division One.

“The League have made the FA aware of the resignation and await advice on the next steps for the club and the League.”
