Gravesend goalkeeper selected for England

Friday 10th November 2006

Lance Cronin, Gravesend & Northfleet's 21- year- old goalkeeper, has been invited to join the initial squad of 23 players selected for the England National Game XI for their next match with Holland.

Cronin (pictured) joined the Fleet in the close season of 2006, from Shrewsbury Town. After making his way through the youth ranks at Crystal Palace, his performances at reserve level were rewarded with a stint in the first team squad.

He then spent spells at Wycombe Wanderers and Oldham Athletic, before moving to Shrewsbury.

His selection for the 23-man England squad - which will be reduced to 16 players before the game - is a reward for the role he has played in helping the Fleet become one of the surprise packages of the current season.

The England game will be played on Wednesday November 29th at Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium.
