Gower steps down

Monday 03rd July 2006
Ken Gower has decided to step down as manager of Whitstable Town’s under 16 side, despite finishing another successful year.

Gower, who is replaced by Greg Smith, told the club’s website that he’s just started his own business and wants a break from managing – but insists he will still be supporting the coastal club.

He said:   “If there is one thing I can look back on with tremendous satisfaction during my time involved with the youth it’s the number of players who started off in one of my junior sides who progressed to playing first team football.

”The way the set up at the club is run the lads are able to progress through the junior ranks to the U16’s then through onto the first team.

”I have been lucky in as during my time I have coach some very good players, in fact far too many to mention by name.

“I have always enjoyed my time working with the lads but due to work commitments, I have just started my own local business, UC Groundworks so I have decided to take a break.

”I will still be supporting the club as I have always done so I shall still be around the Belmont.”
