Gorman set to unveil new summer signings
SEVENTEEN players were put through their paces at Erith & Belvedere’s fifth pre-season training session at Halls Place in Crayford tonight, writes Stephen McCartney.
Only three players, Aiden Pursglove, Matt Johnson and Nick Smith were unavailable through holiday commitments but joint-manager Paul Gorman is pleased with the attitude of his players as they prepare for a push towards the Kent League title.
“We have a very good squad here today,” Gorman told www.kentishfootball.co.uk.
Without wishing to unveil names, Gorman is expected to sign players after the club’s opening pre-season friendly - the visit of Ryman League Division One South outfit Sittingbourne to Park View Road on Saturday, 19th July.
He said: “I haven’t actually signed them yet. There’s a few players we’re going to sign. We’re speaking today and over the weekend, one from Ashford, one from Dartford, two or three from Greenwich Borough, one from playing out in America in the Major League Soccer.”
When asked when deals will be done, Gorman replied: “After the first game we’ll sign them up. We may have a couple more. We’re just waiting on everybody to get back on holiday.
“It’s good to see everybody’s here and ready to train and get stuck in and that’s a lot better turn out than last year.
“That’s what hindered us last year, a lot of injuries and people being unfit when the season started.
“It’s important to get everyone fit and raring to go before the start of the season.”
Gorman, meanwhile, wanted to pass on a message to former Greenwich Borough joint-manager Phil Miles, who suffered a work related injury.
He said: “Paul Gorman and everybody at Erith & Belvedere wish Phil Miles a speedy recovery from the accident that he had at work.”
