Godalming Town 0-0 Chatham Town

Sunday 27th August 2006

After their excellent win in midweek, Chatham Town boss Phil Miles was able to name an unchanged team for the trip to Surrey, writes Neil Sanders.

Both sides created early openings. John Whitehouse saved well from Craig Prendergast and Danny Larkin had the ball taken off his toe just as he was about to shoot from close range following a corner.

The best effort of the first half came from Godalming's Joe Chandiram, whose 20 yard volley rattled the Chats crossbar after 18 minutes.

The yellow card saw plenty of action in the latter stages of the first half with both sides receiving 2 apiece, although Godalming's Paul Anderson could count himself lucky his was not red after a very poor challenge on Rob Denness.

Early in the second half Chatham skipper Tom Binks came to his side's rescue with an excellent goal line clearance, whilst Ian Pulman and Darren Smith both had decent efforts at the other end.

Chats then switched to 3-5-2 and Pulman went close again with a lob. In the final quarter it was the home side who looked more likely to snatch a winner as Ahmen Tchankou kept the Chats defence busy.

A point away from home and a clean sheet seemed like a fair reward from a pretty decent performance.

Chatham Town : Whitehouse, Binks, Davey (Douglas 73), Larkin, Goodger, Best, Smith, Brooks, Harvey, Denness (Lyons 86), Pulman. Subs: Mortimore, Winter-Nolan.
