Goalkeeper Jack Delo set for Herne Bay return

FOLKESTONE INVICTA boss Neil Cugley says he will spend some time this weekend tying up a few loose ends before he can announce the shape of his Invicta squad ahead of next season.

It is believed that majority of the contracted players have already agreed terms while young defender Phil Stevenson has been added to that number on a first-time deal.

“He’s got a lot of potential and did well for us in the second half of the season,” Cugley told www.folkestoneinvicta.co.uk.

Stevenson, a former Invicta youth team striker, had since been converted into a centre-back during a spell at Millwall, but, since Christmas, had virtually made the right back spot his own with Folkestone.

Goalkeeper Jack Delo could be one player to be leaving Cheriton Road, and is believed to be considering an offer to re-join fellow Ryman League Division One South side, Herne Bay.

Herne Bay have recently appointed Sam Denly as their new manager after parting company with successful boss Simon Halsey in April.  Halsey has taken over at Lordswood, who finished in fifth-place in the Kent League under Jason Lillis, who has become Nicky Southall’s assistant manager at Whitstable Town.

It has been confirmed that Richard Atkins is taking some time out to go travelling later in the year, but the popular striker will train pre-season with Invicta and should be available for the first few weeks of the season.

That could allow the manager a little bit more breathing space as he looks for cover, at least over the period when Atkins is away, while teenage forward Johan Ter Horst has yet to make a firm decision regarding his options regarding further education.

Cugley added: “I should have a better idea of where we’re going after this weekend.  I may even have brought a couple more in by then.”
