Gledhill joins the Police

Tuesday 06th June 2006
Ryman League Division One South club Metropolitan Police have added two major additions to their squad for the forthcoming season, reports www.nonleaguedaily.com

Vastly experienced Lee Gledhill has signed from Welling United. Gledhill is very well thought of in both non-League and professional football.

Goalkeeper Will Packham has also signed from Ryman League Premier Division runners-up Fisher Athletic.

Packham was a professional at
Brighton for many years and has played for top non-League clubs and both will improve the squad immensely.

Met boss Jim Cooper said: "I am delighted to have signed both players. William will take over the goalkeeping duties from Stuart Mackenzie, who has been fantastic for us over the past few years.

“Stuart decided that, due to injuries, he has had to stop playing. This was a very hard decision for Stuart to make. But he will be staying at the Met as goalkeeping coach, and as long as I am there, Stuart will be part of the club if that is what he wishes.

“Will is an exceptional addition to the team. He is a young man and can look forward to spending many years as goalkeeper at the Met. He is awaiting a start date to join as a policeman."

Gledhill is an ex-pro at Barnet. He has recently played Conference football at Gravesend & Northfleet and last season was at Welling United.

“I feel that Lee will add the experience needed to push for automatic promotion. He can play in a variety of positions and is a commanding figure on the pitch.

“These are two of many signings that will be in place before the start of the new season.”

Meanwhile, Metropolitan Police are looking for an away pre-season fixture on Tuesday, 25th July.
