We know Holmer Green enjoy cup games, so we have to guard against that, says Glebe boss Harry Hudson

GLEBE manager Harry Hudson says his side to into their FA Vase First Round tie tomorrow full of confidence.

The Chislehurst-based club remain at the top of the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having collected 28 points from their first 11 league games, level on points with Sheppey United, who have a game in hand.

Glebe’s only league defeat came in the shape of a 3-0 defeat at Deal Town, but Hudson’s side have beaten Rusthall (5-1) and Lordswood (6-0) in the league, before thrashing Farnborough Old Boys Guild 9-0 in the Kent Senior Trophy before knocking Phoenix Sports out of the London Senior Cup with a 4-0 win at Foxbury Avenue in midweek.

Hudson takes his side to Buckinghamshire tomorrow to play Holmer Green, a side that are in fifteenth-place in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division table, with four wins and a draw from their 11 league games.

Glebe have beaten lower league sides Coggeshall United (3-1) and May & Baker (5-0) in The FA Vase this season, while Holmer Green have beaten Spelthorne Sports (2-0) and Wembley (5-4 on penalties after a goal-less draw).

“Holmer Green away for us tomorrow, which is a long journey, the first Step Five team that we’ve faced in The FA Vase, so it’s going to be a different opposition than what we’ve faced from the previous Six clubs.

“They are a mix of youth and experience and they’ve had some mixed results in the league.

“We know they enjoy the cup games and we have to guard against that.

“But for us, we’ve four very good wins and Tuesday’s performance, especially in the first half against Phoenix was a very pleasing one.

“We go into the game full of confidence and looking to continue our very good form.”

Glebe have added former Tooting & Mitcham United left-back Peter Wedgeworth, who Hudson had playing under him at Whyteleafe.

“He’s got a lot of experience, incredibly gifted left-foot and a natural winner whose won promotion from Step Four in the past so I think he’s going to be a real asset to us moving forward.

“We’re looking forward to the game and hopefully we can be in the hat for the next round.”
