We can’t afford to drop many more points if we are to be contenders come the end of the season, admits Glebe manager Gary Alexander

GLEBE manager Gary Alexander says his side can’t afford to drop points against struggling Greenwich Borough tomorrow.

Glebe are in tenth-place in the Sea Pioneer Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 24 points on the board from their opening 15 games and are now 19 points adrift of leaders Beckenham Town.

The Foxes suffered a shock 2-1 home defeat to Punjab United last Saturday, before coming away from Corinthian on the back of a 3-2 defeat on Tuesday night.

“After the week we have had in terms of points, it’s not what we wanted so it makes every game even bigger now starting tomorrow as we can’t afford to drop many more points if we are to be contenders come the end of the season,” said Alexander.

“But having said that, there is a long way to go and no league has ever been won at Christmas.

“As seen this week from ourselves anyone can beat anyone on their day.

“Last week against Punjab, having gifted them two goals, it made life hard and not taking chances when they come along gifted Punjab three points, which of course is always disappointing.

“Corinthian on Tuesday night was played in horrendous conditions and we didn’t show enough energy at times and we conceded sloppy goals which proved costly in a very open game.

“Greenwich Borough is a must-win tomorrow and will by no means be easy.  It will be the third time this season we have met so we know a little about each other but we're having a good season and knowing the boys will be hurting and hopefully we'll get a reaction and get back to winning ways.”
