Stowmarket have all the pressure on them as apparently they are favourites to win The FA Vase and that’s added pressure in itself, says Glebe boss Gary Alexander

GLEBE manager Gary Alexander says all of the pressure will be on Stowmarket Town in The Buildbase FA Vase tomorrow.

Both club’s have not reached the Fourth Round before but Rick Andrews’ side have been billed as the favourites to win the competition by the bookmakers' going into game.

Unbeaten Stowmarket Town are sitting 13 points clear of Wroxham at the top of the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Premier Division with a playing record of 17 wins and four draws from their 21 league games.

Stowmarket Town are 22 games unbeaten and have lost just once in their 28 games in all competitions this season and that was in The FA Cup.

Andrews’ side have beaten Colney Heath (1-0) and Stansted (4-0) in The Buildbase FA Vase this season, while Glebe have beaten Peacehaven & Telscombe (5-3); Fisher (2-1) and Newhaven (1-0).

Glebe are in seventh-place in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table with 30 points from 18 games and the Chislehurst based side are plotting an upset.

“What a great day for Glebe Football Club to be playing in the last 32 of The FA Vase for the first time,” said former Millwall striker Alexander, 40.

“It shows how far this club has come in a short space of time, so credit to the chairman (Rocky McMillan) and those that have worked so hard over the last few years for this club to grow and hopefully have success.

“Having seen Stowmarket’s league form this season they’re obviously a good side and we’re in for a tough game.

“They have all the pressure on them as apparently they are favourites to win The FA Vase and that’s added pressure in itself.

“They have some quality but so do we and on our day we’re capable of competing with any team at this level, so I’m looking forward to it as these are the days people and players really look forward to and the prize makes it so special so we go there with all the pressure on them.

“I’m told they’re favourites to beat us but one things for sure my team have trained hard all week and will be up for this so it’s all on the day, who turns up and come full-time the better team will be in the hat.  Hopefully, it’s us and we certainly will be giving our all.”

Stowmarket’s leading goalscorers are Josh Mayhew (25 goals), Christy Finch (11) and Matt Blake (10), while Jamie Philpot, 23, has notched 19 for Glebe and Stowmarket Town are aiming for a crowd of at least 500 to their Green Meadows ground.
