Hopefully we can have a good season, says Glebe boss Adam Woodward

GLEBE manager Adam Woodward says he is looking forward to having a good first season in charge of the club.

The Chislehurst based club finished in third-place in the Kent Invicta League last season and revealed that they had sacked manager Simon Copley and his assistant Ian Varley before the pair won both the London Senior Trophy and Kent Invicta League Challenge Trophy after beating Tooting Bec and Sutton Athletic respectively.

Glebe chairman Rocky McMillan turned to Woodward, who was a part of the management team at Ryman League Division One North side Phoenix Sports and he will be assisted by Sam Long and Charlie McCarthy.

They got their pre-season campaign underway with a 3-0 home win over SCEFL Premier Division side Erith Town last weekend.

Glebe continue their preparations with a visit from Ryman League Division One South side Chatham Town tomorrow in what will be new manager’s Tony Beckingham’s first game in charge of the Medway side.

“Pre-season has been going very well and both my assistants Charlie McCarthy and Sam Long have been putting on some fantastic sessions along with Peter Dale with the goalkeepers and the boys have been very complementary,” said Woodward.

“We had a good test last Saturday against higher opposition in Erith Town and we played ok fielding two very strong elevens each half.

“We’ve had another two sessions under our belt this week and are ready for our game on Saturday against Becks’ Chatham Town side and I’m looking forward to it.”

Glebe failed to win promotion from the final Kent Invicta League campaign as Bearsted and Sheppey United finished above them in the title race.

Copley and Varley is the new management team at league rivals Holmesdale, but Glebe have managed to keep five players from last season’s squad.

Striker Ryan Golding, who scored 31 goals, James Day, Alfie George, Cameron Reardon and Carson Dennis have agreed terms to re-sign for the club.

Three players have decided to drop down two levels to sign from Phoenix Sports; Scott Whibley (on dual-registration), Stephen Jerrome and George King.

Davey-Jo Anderson (Eltham Palace), Sam O’Keeffe and Tamer Dalil (both Beckenham Town), Shaquille Richards (Lordswood), Ola Kukoyi (Barkingside) are also new arrivals to Foxbury Avenue.

“Glebe is a club that I can see progression at and Rocky has been brilliant since I’ve come in and the players are buying into what me and my staff want.

“Hopefully we can have a good season and I’m looking forward to it.”
