Former Welling star appointed Faversham's new first team coach

Wednesday 05th July 2006
Former Welling United star Paul Copley has been named as Faversham
Town
's new first-team coach, writes James Brown.

Copley, 36, played Kent League football for Slade Green and  Crockenhill before spending five years in the Conference at Park View Road.

He replaces Rob Udberg who left Salters Lane
in early June to become assistant manager to Steve Lovell at Sittingbourne.

Copley, who is from Ashford, met Faversham Town boss Terry Cordice and his No 2 Peter Holder at training on Tuesday night.

And after shaking hands on the deal, Copley said: "I think the gaffer, me and Pete will work well together. I can't wait to start a successful season."

Cordice said he was thrilled to offer a role on his staff to a coach of Copley's calibre.

He said: "I'm really pleased to welcome Paul to the football club. He is a great signing for us. The fact he has played Conference football can only be good for our lads as we look to make the step up this season."

Cordice is optimistic that striker Graham Taylor WILL sign Kent League forms for Faversham.

Striker Taylor scored twice on his one and only appearance for Faversham Town
on loan from Ramsgate last season but moved on to Deal Town before picking up a groin injury.

However, he is back to full fitness and keen to kick-start his career and Cordice is upbeat about his chances of landing the player after he showed up for pre-season training this week.

Cordice revealed: "Graham just wants to get back playing first team football and I am hoping that he will decide to sign. He missed alot of last season through injury but is fit again and looked good in training.

"Let's just keep his fingers crossed that he likes what he sees and joins us. He'd be a great signing."

Another new face at training has been former Ashford Town
and Tunbridge Wells midfielder Lee Skinner.

Cordice said: "Lee's a good lad who has done well and we'll see how things progress. Training has been very encouraging. The lads are shaping up nicely."

Anyone who would like to try out for the club this summer is invited to attend training on Tuesdays and Thursdays with the squad meeting at Salters Lane at 7pm.
