Folkestone Invicta unveil Chris Elliott signing

Monday 29th July 2013
FOLKESTONE INVICTA boss Neil Cugley says he is looking forward to welcoming Tonbridge Angels boss Tommy Warrilow to Cheriton Road on Tuesday night.

Cugley will welcome his old friend, the now fairly long-serving Angels boss, even if the one-time Folkestone defender cannot compete with Cugley’s own period in control of Invicta, which is currently heading towards and astonishing 20 years!

“I always enjoy the chance to have a chat with Tom and I always look forward to playing Tonbridge,” Cugley told www.folkestoneinvicta.co.uk.

Strikers Stuart King and Steve Harper are both unavailable – recent signing Harper missing the chance to face one of his former clubs - while King should be back to face Maidstone on Thursday, to play against the club he helped win promotion to the Ryman Premier in May before returning to Cheriton Road this summer.

“Yes, those two are missing tomorrow, but goalie Rob French is back and we should have 17 or 18 to choose from again,” revealed Cugley.

“I’m looking forward to using them all in the next couple of games before we decide who stays and who goes.”

Tonbridge themselves saw the departure of top-scorer Frannie Collin and keeper Lee Worgan, both to Maidstone United, during the close season, but one familiar face who could be in their side is Luke Blewden, who was with Invicta briefly a couple of years back.

The striker renews a family connection with the Angels, where his dad Colin enjoyed great success before he also became a real fans’ favourite at both Gravesend & Northfleet and Dover.

Luke was top-scorer for Crawley Down Gatwick last season before switching to Longmead Stadium early this summer where he will be stepping up to Conference South level.

Meanwhile, Cugley has been impressed with former Canterbury City full-back Chris Elliott, who signed Ryman League forms after the game against Deal Town last week.

Cugley said: “He’s still got some work to do on his fitness, but he’s doing well.

“He’s young, looks comfortable on the ball and has got a good long throw on him, which is a real bonus.”

Elliott was introduced to the club by new recently appointed assistant manager Simon Austin who knew him from their time together at Canterbury City last season.

Admission prices for this game have been reduced to £5 (adults) and £3 (concessions).
