Ian Draycott smashes Folkestone Invicta goalscoring records in fewer games than James Dryden

IAN DRAYCOTT has smashed Folkestone Invicta’s goalscoring record in fewer games than prolific talisman striker James Dryden.

The 33-year-old attacker scored his 142nd goal for the Isthmian League Premier Division club during their 3-3 home draw against Potters Bar Town at Cheriton Road last weekend.

Prolific striker James Dryden scored his 141st goal of the club on the last day of the 2010-11 season against Lowestoft Town which was his 407th appearance for the club.

However, Draycott has broken the record in his 273rd appearance for Folkestone Invicta.

Manager Neil Cugley told the club website: “He has been a good pro ever since he has been at the club and everybody knows he is a top person and a really easy-going lad.

“As he has got a bit older, he has played a bit deeper but he can still definitely do a job for us. I am delighted for him.

“As long as he stays fit, he can keep going, certainly we hope until the end of this season anyway.

“No disrespect to him, be he is not a 50 game a season man anymore but I cannot see any reason why he can’t carry on.”

Cugley signed Draycott from Leatherhead in the summer of 2014 and Drayctot notched 43 goals during the 2014-15 campaign and 40 the following campaign.

Draycott has gone on and scored five career hat-tricks for Cugley’s side.

Folkestone Invicta, meanwhile, welcome Vanarama National League North side Gloucester City to Cheriton Road in The FA Cup Third Qualifying Round tomorrow (15:00).
