Millwall show an interest in Folkestone Invicta striker Harry Smith

FOLKESTONE INVICTA have confirmed that Millwall are interested in striker Harry Smith, 21, who is due to start a week’s trial at the League One club fairly soon.

Smith’s 20 goals last season – 13 of them during Folkestone’s run-in to the Ryman League Division One South championship – attracted interest from far and wide and he impressed Scottish Premier outfit Aberdeen during a trial at Pittodrie just before Easter.

Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley told www.folkestoneinvictafc.co.uk: “We wish him well. He surprised me by just how well he did for us after joining us from Sittingbourne in December.

“At six feet six and with an obvious eye for goal, I’ve always felt he could do well at higher levels if he gets the chance.

“Obviously we’ll be very interested to see how he gets on at Millwall and if they decide to take a chance on him. He’s got a much better touch than I’d thought he had when we signed him and we’d never stand in a player’s way if he got the opportunity to play in the Football League – or even higher.”

Invicta’s moves to bring in two or three new faces are still ongoing with Cugley adding: “I need to have a word with the chairman about a couple of things before we can announce anything definite.”

And Folkestone’s new chairman Paul Morgan, will undoubtedly be interested to hear that young Harry could become a Millwall player as the chairman is an avid supporter of the Lions, while Smith supports Crystal Palace.
