Hopefully someone will come in next year add some money to the club so we can progress and go where we know the club can go, says Fisher boss Dean Harrison

FISHER manager Dean Harrison has issued a SOS for businessmen to get involved with the club financially.

Harrison revealed that he has a £300 per week playing budget at his disposal so to be in the top eight in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division is a great achievement.

Fisher thrashed Croydon 5-0 at Croydon Sports Arena on Wednesday night, inflicting more pain on the derailed Trams that are struggling at the foot of the table having lost all 10 league games.

Fisher welcome thirteenth-placed Glebe to St Paul’s tomorrow, a side that are under-achieving in the league with 15 points from 11 games, four points adrift of Fisher, who have a game in hand.

Harrison said: “Glebe will be tough, we lost 1-0 there. They scored in the 85^th minute and it was a bit of a smash-and-grab by their own admission.

“We played well that day, didn’t take our chances but we know they’re a very good side.”

Fisher then travel to Eden Park Avenue next Wednesday to lock horns with their bitter-rivals Beckenham Town.

Beckenham Town won all of their opening nine league games but have since lost back-to-back games to Corinthian (1-0) and AFC Croydon Athletic (3-0) and their lead at the top has now been cut to five points.

“Beckenham are top of the league next week so it’s going to be our hardest game of the season, without a doubt,” said Harrison.

“But for me it’s a free game, we’re not expected to get anything there.  The pressure will be on them so we’ll go there and enjoy the night.

“It’s a big rivalry, it’s my old club, it’s a nice rivalry, it’s all good. I’m sure there will be some nice football on display. We’ve got no pressure on us so we’ll go and enjoy the night.”

Croydon are at the foot of the table and they are behind Rusthall and Tunbridge Wells on four points apiece – but Harrison is still targeting survival.

“My targets are the same as it was from the start of the season. We’re only two months in, we want to stay up this year. 

"As long as we stay up this year and consolidate, hopefully someone will come in next year add some money to the club so we can progress and go where we know the club can go.

“If I finish mid-table I’ll be highly delighted. Staying up for us is a great achievement and we can look to push on next year.”

Watching the game at The Arena on Wednesday night was a sobering thought as Croydon were playing Isthmian League Premier Division football in 2002, while the old Fisher Athletic reached the top-flight of non-league football (the GM Vauxhall Conference as it was then, now the Vanarama National League) in 1991.

“If there was a budget, I think we’ve got a great chance.  I think it’s a great club, we know that from the history. We’ve got the best history in this division, I would imagine as a football club, so if anyone wants to throw some money at it, why can’t we get back there as a club? It’s a nice opportunity for someone, it’s a nice club.”

Winning football matches breads confidence and Harrison says he's enjoying life at the club at present.

“I’m enjoying the football, enjoying the dressing room. The lads are great and that’s the main thing. I’m not giving up my Saturday’s and week nights to not enjoy it. Football for me is something that needs to be enjoyed so it’s all good.  I’m happy, the boys are happy, we’ll keep going.”
