Jamie Day joins Adrian Pennock at Forest Green Rovers

Monday 11th May 2015

JAMIE DAY has been appointed as Forest Green Rovers' new assistant manager.

The 35-year-old joins the club as number to Adrian Pennock, having recently come to an end of a spell as manager at Vanarama Conference South club Ebbsfleet United.

Day’s arrival at The New Lawn sees him rekindle a working relationship with Pennock with the two having previously working together at the Wings with Pennock as manager and Day pulling the strings in midfield.

Pennock has operated without an assistant since Dave Kevan’s departure to Football League side Notts County at the end of March, so Day’s arrival helps boost the coaching set-up ahead of the club’s Vanarama National League campaign.

Day and Pennock will return to Park View Road next season after Loui Fazakerley kept Welling United in the division by finishing one place above the relegation zone.

Day told Forest Green Rovers’ website: “I’ve played under Ady as a player and hopefully now I’ll have a really good spell as a coach working alongside him.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I’ve got the experience of managing to help Ady. I’ve worked as a coach before at youth level (for Cambridge United) and as a number two, so it gives me another side of the game at a higher level to work with.”

Day led Welling Untied to the Conference South title as player-manager in 2013.

But his spell at Ebbsfleet United after leaving Park View Road earlier on in the season wasn’t as successful, taking charge of 25 games with the club having to settle for a disappointing ninth-place finish, before he parted company with one game of the season left.

Barry Ashby, Day’s assistant manager when the pair were together at Welling United, tweeted: “Delighted for Daysie with his new role at Forest Green Rovers, they have got a great coach and a top bloke and has been a pleasure working with him.”
