I can’t see a weak side in our league so will need to be at our best from the off, says Faversham Town boss Ray Turner

Friday 10th August 2018

FAVERSHAM TOWN manager Ray Turner says it’s his intention to get back amongst the big hitters in the Bostik South East Division this season.

The Lilywhites have finished in tenth-place and nineteenth-place (of 24 club's) in their past two seasons, after reaching the play-offs on three of their previous four campaigns before that and Turner is keen to turn his club into a challenger.

Faversham Town welcome Herne Bay to Salters Lane tomorrow on the opening day of the new season.

“It does seem a long time coming doesn’t it?” said Turner, as Bostik League club’s have had to wait seven days to get their campaign’s underway.

“I have got to say I can’t wait to get started tomorrow! My aim over the summer was to add experience and attacking power to our squad.”

There are only 20 club’s in the Bostik South East Division this season and 24 Kent derbies to contend with during their 38-match campaign.

Turner knows his side will need to hit the ground running against their local rivals.

“I think the league will be incredibly challenging and in the old format you always had a chance after Christmas to put a run together and still make the play-offs, but all teams will be keen to set the pace and it should lead to a better quality of game and less surprise midweek results, so I really think the best side will come out on top rather than a side that maybe gets lucky with the fixtures.

“I can’t see a weak side in our league so will need to be at our best from the off!

“Pre-season has improved in terms of performances as we have gone on and it’s important we have a clear plan going into tomorrow’s game with Herne Bay.

“They have made it clear they intend pushing for play-offs so it will be a good indicator of where we are, against a team that did the double over us last season.

“At this stage you simply want to win every game, stay in all of the cup competitions and generate some excitement and interest among our supporters.

“We have some work to do to get amongst the best in our division but that will be our intention.  We have some fabulous derbies this season so it’s time to get to work!”
