Fans want to use a clubhouse at James Whatman Way

Monday 04th June 2007

Football fans across Kent are signing an on-line petition to enable Maidstone United fans to enjoy a drink on the site of their new stadium - and to raise much-needed revenue for the Ryman Premier League club, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Stones, who’ve clinched back-to-back titles on their way into the Ryman Premier League, are expected to move into the site at James Whatman Way during the 2008-2009 season - ending a 20 plus year exile from the county town.

Signage promoting the club’s homecoming will be erected at James Whatman Way in time for the Tour de France, which passes the site.

And the Stones Social Club will be one of the first buildings constructed and chairman Paul Bowden-Brown has appealed to fans to use the facility whilst the club continues it’s groundsharing deal with Ryman League Division One South club Sittingbourne.
