Erith Town unveil Ennio Gonnella as their new manager

Wednesday 27th August 2014
ERITH TOWN have appointed Ennio Gonnella as their new manager, following Simon Austin’s departure last Wednesday.

Austin, 33, who is a consultant in property and IT, revealed last night that he has just been commissioned on a 22-month contract to deliver savings within local government so feels that he cannot give the manager’s job the commitment it needs.

Gonnella, who has previously coached in the Academies of Millwall, Crystal Palace and Chelsea and more recently with Fisher Athletic when they were in Conference South, leaves his coaching role at Ryman Premier League club Dulwich Hamlet.

Steve Rice will retain his assistant manager’s role he had when Austin was in charge of the Southern Counties East Football League club.

Rice was in charge for the two games over the Bank Holiday weekend, which resulted in a 3-2 home defeat to Canterbury City and a goal-less draw at Phoenix Sports.

A brief club statement said: “We would like to thank Steve for stepping in on an interim basis over the past week.

“We would like to welcome Ennio to Erith Town and wish him every success.”

The Dockers are in the bottom two in the table with one point from five games to their name.
