Erith Town part company with James Collins after eleven games

Sunday 10th February 2013
ERITH TOWN parted company with manager James Collins following their defeat at Corinthian yesterday.

The Dockers slipped down to third-place in the Kent Hurlimann Football League table with 38 points from 17 games, following their third successive defeat, going down 2-1 at Gay Dawn Farm.

Collins, who was previously the club’s reserve team manager for three years, took over the reigns after Tony Russell and his assistant manager Ray Powell quit the club to take over at VCD Athletic at the end of October, despite the club sitting proudly at the top of the table.

A run of six wins on the bounce has seen VCD leapfrog over Erith Town in to second place with 39 points from 19 games, following their 6-2 home win over Greenwich Borough yesterday.

Former Tonbridge Angels striker, Sherwin Stanley, scored four goals, with recent signing, Frankie Sawyer netting a brace.

Collins, 30, was in charge for eleven games, winning two, drawing two and losing seven.

Mark Tompkins, who managed the club between September 2006 and August 2008, has emerged as the man expected to take over in time for Tuesday night’s trip to Greenwich Borough.

The former Bromley and Cray Wanderers, Fisher Athletic and Greenwich Borough striker, went on to manage Croydon in the Kent League and Ryman League Division One South side Chipstead.
