It’s a miracle - I think we’re going to do it. I’ve just got a funny feeling that we’re going to do it, says Erith & Belvedere manager Owen Jones

ERITH & BELVEDERE manager Owen Jones believes his side will claim the Southern Counties East Football League First Division title on Saturday.

The Deres celebrated winning the London Senior Trophy for the first time after beating their league rivals Bridon Ropes 4-1 after extra time last night.

Both the Premier Division and First Division title races will go down to the last game of the season.

Cray Valley travel to play Canterbury City a point clear of Corinthian, who host Bearsted in the Premier Division.

While, Welling Town travel to Lydd Town, a point clear of Erith & Belvedere, who travel to Snodland Town in the First Division.

“I think that if we can beat Snodland, Welling is going to have a problem, I really do think that because it’s not easy at Lydd. They’re crazy that lot,” said Jones.

“Lydd are either going to get their sun glasses out and chillaz or it’s going to be squeaky bum time for Welling.

“If Welling do it (win the title), fair play to them. They’ve been there all season. I admire what they’ve done so if they do it, good luck to them.

“We need a miracle and I do believe in miracles. As a Christian I do believe in miracles.”

Last night’s Final was delayed for 23 minutes due to a floodlight failure and the game didn’t finish until 22:36 at night.

Having played last Thursday night, Easter Monday and last night, Jones insists his players will have enough in their tanks for their make-or-break game, especially as only one team win promotion from this division due to the points-per-game farce.

“We’ve got the gaffer’s group chat so we’ll be texting and I’ll be telling them to keep stretching and eat and drink the right, stretch and go on light jogs and I’ll be ringing them and getting them prepared,” said Jones.

“I think Snodland will come at us. It’s in our hands so it’s up to us to take the game to them.

“We’ll see what we’ve got in the tank. I’m sure we’ve still got enough in there. If we want to be champions that’s what we’ve got to do. We’ve got to dig in because it’s a miracle. I think we’re going to do it. I’ve just got a funny feeling that we’re going to do it!”
