Erith & Belvedere chairman Paul Springett mutually agrees to end Sam Groombridge's 25-match reign at Park View Road

Monday 02nd February 2026

ERITH & BELVEDERE chairman Paul Springett has mutually agreed to relieve Sam Groombridge of his role as the manager after only 25 games in charge.

The club decided to part ways this morning, after losing 4-1 at home to Gravesend-based side Punjab United at the weekend.

The Deres – who harboured play-off aspirations at the beginning of the campaign – are six points adrift of the top-five in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having picked up 32 points (nine wins, five draws and 10 defeats) from their 24 of 36 league games.

“The decision has not been taken lightly and comes after careful consideration during what has been a challenging period for the club on the pitch,” said Springett in a club statement.

“Football decisions are never easy and this one has been particularly difficult on a personal level.

“Sam is not only a former team-mate but also a good friend, which has made the process all the more testing.

“Sam has always represented the club with commitment, professionalism and pride, giving his time and best efforts in difficult circumstances.

“While results this season has not met the standards we set for ourselves, his dedication to the role and his respect for the club have never been in question.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, I would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sam for his hard work and contributions during his time at The Deres.  He leaves with our respect and I wish him nothing but success and the very best for the future, both personally and professionally.”

Groombridge, who had replaced Billy Hamlin and Jamie Phipps in early September, was in charge for only 25 games (all competitions) and the side won 11, drew three and lost 11.

The side has won only once in their last seven games in League and Cup, which has led to Groombridge losing his job.

The club has not stated who will be in charge for tomorrow night’s home League game against fourth-placed Bearsted.
