Dover receive £3,000 from Supporters Trust

Monday 15th January 2007
Dover Athletic chairman Jim Parmenter was delighted to receive a £3,000 cheque from the Supporters Trust this weekend, writes Justin Allen.

The club have taken gigantic strides to clear debt since a new board of directors, headed by Jim, took control of the club in January 2005.

Two years on, the CVA debt has been cleared and now Dover Athletic are looking to clear the historic bank overdraft, which currently stands in the region of £40,000.

Mr Parmenter told www.doverathletic.com   : "It is vital we get these debts cleared and give it a big push. It's possible to get these debts cleared this year - if everyone pulls together and gives it a big go.

"Once the club is completely clear of debt, as a board we can start to invest in the facilities at Crabble and of course make more funds available to improve the playing staff.

"Building a successful football club is a lengthy process and we're laying the foundations in place to give us the best possible chance of bringing that to Crabble. It is going to be a hard process but one that we're all geared for."

Trust representative Paul Harrison said: "It's vital fans don't simply think that the club is clear of debt - and rely on Jim and the board to continue pouring money into the club.

"We don't have Russian billionaires at Dover and it needs to be a joint effort between local businessmen and our supporters to take the club forward.

"That's £7,000 we've now raised this season for the club. We need you all to stay with us and get these last debts cleared - and then for the first time in years the club will be in the black, not the red, and we can invest in things that will make the difference to the club . . . and most importantly our superbly loyal fans."
