Dover Athletic unveil Ross Kitteridge signing

ROSS KITTERIDGE has joined Dover Athletic on a free transfer from Bishop's Stortford, writes Justin Allen.

The former Reading keeper - who spent a loan spell at Dover four years ago - penned a one-year deal and replaces the now departed Ross Flitney.

Kitteridge is a talented keeper who spent eight years at the Arsenal academy before joining the Royals as a scholar in July 2006.

And after spending short loan spells at Stevenage, Dover and Eastleigh, Ross was sent out to Basingstoke for a full season, where he kept 16 clean sheets.

But, unfortunately, Ross was released by Reading and after a short spell at Aldershot last season, he ended up with Stortford.

Hayes told www.doverathletic.com: "One thing I like about this lad, as well as the fact he's a good keeper, he is hungry to get back into the Football League.

"That's what we want, not players who just fancy going part-time and staying that way without any ambition. Dover's not a place where we want things to be cosy. We want hungry players and Ross fits this bill."

Flitney went quiet after being offered a new deal and strangely was quoted in a local paper that he had a "figure in his head" that was not met.

Hayes added: "I wish Ross told me the figure - rather than keep it stored in his head! We never heard back from him and I couldn't reach him - so I knew he had other ideas and wanted to go elsewhere, which is a shame.

"Ross spoke about the travelling distance and not wanting to do it anymore - but in the next breath he mentioned about staying if a figure was met. But at the end of it all I wish him luck. He did very well for me last season, but we move on."
