Dover Athletic unveil Birchall signing
Monday 13th July 2009
ADAM BIRCHALL has joined Dover Athletic on a two-year deal following his release from Barnet, writes Justin Allen.
The former Arsenal trainee striker watched Whites' friendly with his ex-club on Saturday and was thoroughly impressed by what he saw.
And boss Andy Hessenthaler told www.doverathletic.com : "We are delighted to get someone of Adam's calibre to the club.
"He is a defender's nightmare. He never gives them a moment's peace and is very much of the Paul Dickov mould. He gives us something very different up front.
"Adam's a local lad, which is a big plus, as we've found it more difficult this season than ever to attract players down to Dover, which has been frustrating.
"But Adam is a Kent boy and he's excited by the challenge. It took him a little bit of time to get his head round going part-time but he now is very happy to have joined us."
Meanwhile, Matt Fish will be ruled out for two to three months after injuring his shoulder.
And the club are hoping to sign former Gillingham and Nottingham Forest star Nicky Southall.
Hess said: "Nicky will only sign for Dover Athletic if he doesn't join a League club. He likes it here but at the moment he's working on keeping fit.
"Nicky's got a couple of options but hopefully, fingers crossed, we can sort something out and get him here, because he's a terrifc player who can fill the massive void left by Alan Pouton on and off the pitch."
