Dolby quashes striker speculation

Tonbridge Angels’ player-manager Tony Dolby has quashed speculation that he’s going to sign striker Andrew Martin from Ryman League Division One South club Croydon Athletic, writes Stephen McCartney.

Dolby has already made four summer signings, Scott Gooding (right-back) and Aaron Kerr (goalkeeper) from Nationwide Conference neighbours Gravesend & Northfleet, Scott Kinch (midfielder) from Tooting & Mitcham United and former Margate star Anthony Allman.
But Dolby, whose side were promoted back to the Ryman Premier League at the first attempt, is biding his time.

A statement issued on the club’s official website www.tonbridgeangels.co.uk said: “Amidst rumours of another signing, Tony Dolby confirmed he has had talks with a number of players but no one has yet put pen to paper.

“There was a suggestion on a fans forum that the Angels has signed Croydon Athletic striker Andrew Martin.

“However, at this time Dolby has not made any further additions to his squad.

“The Angels boss, who has already made a number of key signings, has spoken to more than one possible front man but as yet has not boosted his strike force.”

Target man Wade Falana, meanwhile, has been urged to improve his fitness to play a key role next season.

The statement added:  “Dolby is still hopeful crowd favourite Wade Falana will return fitter and stronger to play at least one more year for the club.

“Other players are being looked at to bolster the squad.  However, mindful of his budget, Dolby is not rushing in, preferring to bide his time and only add players who can enhance his side for the forthcoming campaign.”

Martin, who scored two goals in ten appearances for the Surrey side last season, is a former Wales under 21 international from his time at Crystal Palace.

He has played for a whole host of Surrey sides, including Sutton United, AFC Wimbledon, Dulwich Hamlet and Whyteleafe.
