Dog-fight win eased the pressure, admits Miles - EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW

Thursday 01st February 2007

After winning their bottom four dog-fight on Tuesday night, Chatham Town manager Phil Miles knows the pressure will be back on him when he takes his side to Tooting & Mitcham United on Saturday, writes Stephen McCartney.

A looping header from central defender Rob Goodger with just four minutes left on the clock settled a dour Kentish derby against Ashford Town.

But that goal proved crucial for the Medway side as they climbed up the Ryman League Division One South table to 17th place but more importantly seven points clear of the drop zone.

Chats have picked up four points and two clean sheets from their last two home games - they held Fleet Town to a goal-less draw last weekend - and they travel to Imperial Fields on Saturday in a confident manner.

“If they’re not confident now after the last two games then they will never be,” Miles said EXCLUSIVELY to www.kentishfootball.co.uk after their sixth league win of their campaign as he looks forward to their trip to play a Terrors side that are climbing the table in ninth place.

“The belief is there, we’re playing well. We’ve stopped conceding goals, which is nice. That’s two clean sheets on the bounce. There’s so many positives, it’s fantastic.

“We’ll train Thursday night and we’ll concentrate on Saturday. It will be another tough game but we’re quite happy.”

Miles admitted their midweek win eased the pressure on him - until 3pm on Saturday.

He added: “Until Saturday. Yes. Obviously the pressure’s off because we’ve taken all three points.

“Until the next game the pressure’s back on again but we’ll just keep working hard and hopefully get enough results.”
