Delighted McMahon unveils Northwood signing

Monday 01st June 2009

THAMESMEAD TOWN manager Keith McMahon has today unveiled his first summer signing, by bringing goalkeeper Steve Northwood back to the club for a third time, writes Stephen McCartney.

The Dartford based goalkeeper spent most of last season sitting on the bench for Maidstone United, as understudy to Andy Walker.

Former Bromley goalkeeper Walker has since left the Stones and has signed for Billericay Town, and the Ryman Premier League club has snapped up Jamie Turner from Ramsgate, which would have reduced Northwood's appearances even more had he stayed.

McMahon has given Northwood the chance to play on a more regular basis at the Bayliss Avenue club.

Northwood originally signed for Thamesmead from Cray Wanderers in 2001 after winning the player-of-the-year award and signed again as cover for two months in March 2007, where he helped the Mead clinch the Kent League Cup.

"I'm pleased to welcome him back as he's an excellent keeper," McMahon, who is preparing the club for their second Ryman League Division One North campaign, told www.thamesmeadtownfc.co.uk.

"The signing strengthens the squad and there will be more to follow."
