Every game is a big one for us and a number of teams, says Deal Town boss Derek Hares

Friday 03rd February 2017

DEAL TOWN manager Derek Hares says every game is a big one as they aim to ease themselves clear of the relegation zone.

The Charles Sports Ground outfit are in the bottom three in the Southern Counties East Football League Premier Division table, having picked up four wins and seven draws from their 23 league outings.

They are only four points clear of the relegation zone, which is currently occupied by Fisher and Beckenham Town and any two of eight clubs could crash down through the relegation trap door at the end of the season.

Deal Town were defeated 4-2 at home to fellow strugglers Erith Town last weekend, but they bounced back by beating third-placed Sevenoaks Town 3-2 (after extra time) to book a home tie against Cray Valley in the Kent Reliance Senior Trophy Semi-Finals on 11 February.

“It’s been a mixed week for us with the defeat against Erith Town last Saturday, which was a disappointing performance from us and then the excellent Cup win against a very good Sevenoaks on Tuesday night,” said Hares.

Hares takes his side to tenth-placed Croydon tomorrow, a side that beat Sheppey United 2-1 at Holm Park last weekend.

He said: “We now have 15 league games left starting at Croydon tomorrow.

“As always in this league it will be a difficult game but if we can produce the same performance as Tuesday I am sure we have a good chance of getting a result.

“A few weeks ago we won on penalties in the Cup after a 2-2 draw. It is very close at the bottom of the league so from now to the end of the season every game is a big one for us and a number of other teams.”
