Dartford's new stadium has link with Real Madrid

Thursday 16th March 2006
Dartford Borough Council’s Jeremy Kite has revealed Real Madrid has a link with Dartford’s new Princes Park Stadium.

Kite, who communicates with fans of the Southern League club through www.dartfordfootballclub.co.uk, revealed he had “gatecrashed” a meeting with Rob de Heer from SIS (Support in Sport).

”To give you an idea of the quality we are pouring into Princes Park, SIS supply the first team playing surfaces for Manchester United at Old Trafford, Ipswich Town, Celtic, Hampden Park and Real Madrid,” he said.

Talking about yesterday’s visit to the building site, which will be the club’s home next season, he added: “I broke away from the colleagues I was with and walked for the first time on the terraces and stood on my own behind what will be the goalmouth.

”As you all know I am a late arrival to the Darts’ family, and I don’t have the long history some of the fans have, but I must say I got a little choked up.

”The sheer enormity of the project, seeing dozens of people working on it, the roar of the equipment, the constant arrival of heavy lories delivering more and more of our stadium and looking out across what is now very obviously a football stadium was really very emotional.

”I think Dartford is going to be very proud of Princes Park – and other teams are really going to want to play there!”

* Back on the pitch, Tony Burman's side travel to Wingate & Finchley on Saturday, 3pm.
