Daish makes "significant" signing

Tuesday 25th July 2006
Gravesend & Northfleet boss Liam Daish has successfully completed negotiations to bring former Charlton Athletic midfielder Stacy Long to Stonebridge Road.

After leaving the Valley a year ago, Long spent last season with Notts County where he made seven League Division Two starts, plus 12 appearances as substitute.

“This is a significant signing for us” Daish told www.gnfc.co.uk.    “Stacy has impressed me in training and in the three games he has played for us. He is a creative midfield player but also gets back when he needs to. He will give us better balance in the middle of the park”.

Long, 21, was born in Bromley and progressed through the ranks at Charlton. He became a regular England youth international and appeared for his country at Under-15, Under-16, Under-17 and Under-18 levels. He was in the same England under 17 squad as Wayne Rooney.

As well being a playmaker, Long also operated as an emergency striker during his time with the Addicks Under-18 side.

The Fleet welcome League Two side Milton Keynes Dons to Stonebridge Road on Wednesday night, kicking off at 7:45pm
.

Admission prices have been reduced to £5 (adults) and £3 (concessions) for the game, the first game at Stonebridge Road this season.
